AFCAT 2018 was conducted on February 25, 2018. Now AFCAT 2018 Result has been announced on April 12, 2018. At some centres, AFCAT 2018 could not be conducted due to technical issues. For those candidates, who appeared for the exam on the scheduled date but failed to attempt or complete the Exam due to technical issues at the centers, a Supplementary exam was conducted by the IAF/CDAC. The Afcat (01/2018) supplementary exam was held on March 24 & 25, 2018. The Admit Cards for the same were uploaded on the official website. Candidates can download the AFCAT Supplementary Exam Admit Card March 15, 2018, onwards. It is Also known by Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT), the exam is held twice a year by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

IAF has announced notification for AFCAT 01/2018 exam. AFCAT 01/2018 Application Form was available from 25 December 2017. For the first time, online testing has been conducted for AFCAT entry in various AFCAT centers. Interested and eligible candidates could fill the online form of AFCAT 01/2018 at careerindianairforce.cdac.in or afcat.cdac.in as per schedule.

AFCAT 01/2018 Branches

Type of Commission

  • PC for Men  Candidates joining as PC officers would continue to serve until the age of superannuation as per their branch and rank.
  • SSC for Men & Women
    1. The engagement period for Flying Branch SSC officers is fourteen years from the date of Commissioning (Not extendable).
    2. The initial tenure for SSC officers in Ground Duty (Tech and Non-tech) Branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, suitability, service requirements and availability of vacancies.

Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT 01/2018

The eligibility criteria for the examination is to be satisfied by all the candidates. It is as provided below:

Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current CPL issued by DGCA is relaxed up to 26 years.

2. Educational Qualification for AFCAT 2018:

Flying Branch

  • Graduates (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent OR BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
  • Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  • Final Year students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any backlog at the time of AFSB Testing and produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.

Technical Branch

  • Minimum 60% in graduation
  • Final Year students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any backlog at the time of AFSB Testing and produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.

Non- Technical Branch

Administration Branch

  • Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Accounts Branch

  • B.Com degree (minimum three-year degree course) from a recognized university with a minimum 60% marks or equivalent.

Logistics Branch

  • Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Education Branch

  • MA/M.Sc degree in English/Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry/Statistics/International Relations/International Studies/Defence Studies/Psychology/Computer Science/IT/Management/MBA/MCA/ Mass Communication/Journalism/Public Relations with minimum 50 % marks in aggregate in all papers put together in Post-Graduation (minimum two years programme) and 60% marks in Graduation (both recognised by UGC/Competent Accreditation Authority).

Meteorology Branch

  • Post Graduation Degree in any science stream/Mathematics/Statistics/Geography/Computer Applications/Environmental Science/Applied Physics/Oceanography/Agricultural Meteorology/Ecology & Environment/Geophysics/Environmental Biology. All candidates should have scored a minimum 50% marks in aggregate in all papers of Post Graduation put together (provided Maths & Physics were studied at Graduation level with a minimum of 55% marks in both).

Visual Standards for AFCAT 01/2018:

For Flying Branch

  • 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other, correctable to 6/6 only for hypermetropia. Manifest Hypermetropia must not exceed +2.0D Sph, Myopia – Nil, and Astigmatism +0.75 D Cyl (within +2.0 D – Max)
  • Near Vision N-5 each eye.
  • Color Vision CP-1(ML T).

Training Period

The duration of training for Flying and Ground Duty (Technical) Branches is 74 weeks and that of Ground Duty (Non-technical) Branches is 52 weeks at Air Force Training Establishments.

Pay and Allowances under AFCAT 2018

Pay (As per 7 CPC)

Note – Flight cadets shall receive a fixed stipend of Rs 56,100/- per month for the period of training.

Benefits

In addition to the Pay & Allowances, officers are entitled to furnished accommodation, comprehensive medical cover for self and dependents, the supply of entitled rations, Canteen & officers’ Mess facilities and many more. LTC and Leave (60 days Annual and 20 days Casual) subject to service exigency.

Insurance

Rs.75 Lakh Insurance Cover (on contribution) is applicable to serving officers. Additional cover of 10 Lakh (on contribution) is applicable to Flying Branch Officers.

Travel Allowance (TA)

To and fro travelling fare by the shortest route of AC-III Tier/AC Chair Car or actual normal bus fare to the candidates appearing in Air Force Selection Board for the first time will be reimbursed. For all other modes of travel, TA will be admissible as per the government authorized rules. No TA is admissible if you have already appeared for the same type of entry at any of the Selection Boards.

AFCAT 01/2018 Application Form

The application form for AFCAT 2018 has been released online, at www.careerairforce.nic.in. To apply for the examination, the candidates need to click on the link provided above and then enter the following details:

  • Name

  • Security Answer

Once the details are submitted, a password will be e-mailed to the candidates. Keep it safe, it will be required to login. After login, the candidates will be able to enter Personal, Educational, Course, and Communication details in the application form. After furnishing the details, the candidates will have to upload scanned images of Photograph, Signature, and Left Thumb Impression for Men / Right Hand Thumb Impression for Women.

Application Fee: The last step to submit the form is the payment of the fee. The amount of application fee is Rs. 250. It should be noted that the aspirants of Meteorology and NCC Special entry need not pay the fee amount.

The application will be treated as complete only when all the parts of the application are filled and uploaded by clicking the submit button. On submission, the candidate will receive a mail on his registered email id as a proof of submission.

AFCAT 01/2018 Admit Card

The issuance of admit card will also be done online, for the registered candidates. The candidates will need the Username and Password to download the hall ticket. The applicants will be allotted AFCAT Centre as per the availability of seats and it will be announced via the admit card. AFCAT 01/2018 Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for AFCAT 01/2018 is as mentioned below:

  • The exam is two hours long. Candidates are usually called 2 hours prior to the exam for the formalities.
  • It contains 100 questions. Each correct question gains candidate 3 marks and with each wrong answer, he loses 1 mark.
  • It contains 4 sections i.e. Verbal ability, Numerical Ability, General Awareness and Reasoning and Military aptitude.
  • The exam is now a computer-based test and answers have to be submitted online.
  • The answers have to be selected on the system allotted at center.

AFCAT 2018 Syllabus

While preparing for any examination, it’s important to know exactly what to study and where to study from. Any digression will lead to wastage of time and it’s well known that time is a major aspect in the competitive exam.

Following is the syllabus for the AFCAT :

Verbal Ability: This section tests the candidate’s English. For this, the candidate has to brush up his basic grammar, vocabulary and practice composition. Some of the topics are that occur in the exam are comprehension, error detection, synonyms, antonyms, testing of vocabulary, sentence completion etc.

Numerical ability: This section tests candidate’s mathematical aptitude. A few topics are the decimal fraction, simplification, average, percentage, ration and proportion, simple interest and profit and loss.

General Awareness: A few topics of this section are history, geography, environmental science, current affairs, current affairs, politics, civics, basic science, defence, and art.

Reasoning and Military aptitude: It includes verbal skills and spatial abilities.

In order to prepare for the verbal ability section, one has to brush up his basic grammar. A highly recommended book for the same is ‘High School English Grammar and Composition‘ by Wren and Martin. This book will also help the aspirants with composition questions and much more. Another part of the verbal ability section is the vocabulary. A vigorously suggested book for the same is ‘Word Power Made Easy‘ by Norman Lewis.

For the preparation of the Numerical ability section, one can refer to ‘Quantitative Aptitude for All Competitive Examination‘ by R.S.Aggarwal.

To prepare for General awareness section, reading a newspaper daily is more than enough.
Reasoning and Military aptitude can be practiced from books like ‘Popular Master Guide, AFCAT‘ by R.Gupta.

Besides all of the above, it’s important to take AFCAT mock tests at regular intervals to be constantly in touch with the exam pattern. The exam tests a candidates accuracy and timing. The goal is to get as many right answers as possible in just two hours. It’s also to be kept in mind that each correct answer gets one +3 marks and with every wrong answer, one loses -1 mark. AFCAT 01/2018 Answer Key

Students who will appear in AFCAT 01/2018 may also look forward to getting the answer key of AFCAT 2018 on the conclusion of the exam. The Answer Key for AFCAT 2018 will consist of the correct answers and with the help of the answer key, the candidates can cross check their answers. The key can also be used for the calculating the score as per the marking scheme and estimate their chances of qualifying the entrance examination.

AFCAT 01/2018 Result

The result of IAF AFCAT 01/2018 will be announced to indicate the list of candidates who have obtained marks more than cut off. Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT / EKT) will be called for further testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs).

AFSB

The AFSB or the Air Force Selection Board is the Board responsible for selecting candidates who have cleared the AFCAT exam. There are four  AFSB centers in India i.e. Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar, and Varanasi.

The AFSB looks in a candidate for an officer like quality and thus selects them on basis of several tests which go on for 5 – 7 days.

    • Day 1: Phase 1- Officer Intelligence Rating and Picture Perception and Discussion Tests.
    • Day 2: Psychological Tests and PABT for Flying Branch candidates
