Chennai Petroleum Corporation (CPCL), formerly known as Madras Refineries Limited (MRL) is a Public Sector Enterprise under Government of India. It was formed as a joint venture in 1965 between Government of India, AMOCO and National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). CPCL has grown up with being a refining capacity of 2.5 MMTPA and now has become the largest refining company of South India. The company works with the objectives such as to develop the energy improvement schemes, to synergise marketing structure, R&D activities and strategies to optimize resources, to move towards the international standards of excellence in Refinery etc.
CPCL has two refineries in the field of Hydro-carbon processing which gives the combined refining capacity of 11.5 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA). The company develops the products such as LPG, Motor Spirit, Superior Kerosene, Aviation Turbine Fuel, High Speed Diesel, Naphtha, Bitumen, Lube Base Stocks, Paraffin Wax, Fuel Oil, Hexane and Petrochemical Feed Stocks.
