Before you start preparation, it is an essential requirement to make a proper study plan and strategy to clear the exam. IES is one of the popular and one of the most sought-after jobs in India. Every year, a large number of engineering graduates appear for IES exams to follow the path for getting recruited by UPSC. But due to the limitation on the number of seats, it is considered one of the toughest exams in India to clear. The IES exams require proper concentration and require special effort to compete through the exam. There are certain tips to keep in mind while preparing for the IES exam, some of which have been discussed in this article.
How to Prepare for UPSC IES Exam 2022?

- Subject Wise notes– Select the best book according to the syllabus as provided by UPSC. Pick 2-3 subjects at a time and give 2 consecutive hours to each subject each day. It will help you to cover the syllabus and at the same time to understand the topics quite well. And yes, while studying it is very important to make self written notes. Make notes on important topics which come across whale reading; write down formulas and important points in a separate note. These notes will help you to revise the topics well before the exam day.

- Previous Year papers- Proper analysis of IES previous year papers also plays a crucial role to crack IES 2022 examination. Obtain past ten years question papers and sample papers and go through them one by one. Pick the most frequently asked topics and frequently asked questions and pay extra attention to them as it will help you to score good marks in IES exams. Also, try to observe the pattern of the question paper and its difficulty level and prepare accordingly.

IES 2022 mains have 2 papers having questions from optical engineering. The personal interview is a personality test conducted as the final stage of the IES recruitment exam. UPSC IES 2022 Exam Pattern
The exam is conducted through preliminary, mains and personal interviews. Preliminary has objective type questions and has a total of 500 marks. Candidates shall have to clear the overall cutoff as well as the cutoff of both papers separately in order to clear the exam. Both papers shall have objective-based questions. The mains exam comprises two descriptive papers. It is in qualifying nature. Only candidates qualifying in prelims will be eligible to appear in the mains stage. There will be 8 questions in total in each paper as an option, out of which you will have to attempt 5 questions. There is no scheme for negative marking in the mains IES 2022. It is warned that up to 5% marks can be deducted in case handwriting is illegible to read.

Personality test is the final stage of the IES examination. The candidates are scored out of a total score of 200 marks.

IES or ESE qualified candidates work for the Indian government and are categorised as Class – 1 Officers. UPSC holds the examination of EIS for the recruitment of engineering graduates.
