There is good news in store for all teachers and soon-to-be teachers looking for a job in a Kendriya Vidyalayas. The good news comes from the announcement made by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Prakash Javadekar. On Thursday, Javadekar announced that 10,000 vacant posts of teaching staff will be filled in the current academic year.
The announcement regarding filling up of 10,000 vacancies in the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) was made during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The HRD Minister said that
There are over 10,000 vacant posts in the KVs across the country
10,000 is indeed a big number considering the unemployment rate in India.
KVS Recruitment 2017 for 10000 Vacancies
He added that the process for filling up more than 10,000 vacancies in KVs has already begun. Last year, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan had announced direct recruitment process to fill up 6,206 posts of teaching staff in the KVs.
To fill up a part of the 10,000 vacancies in KVs, the government had conducted written exams for KVS PGT, TGT, PRT, Principal Recruitment 2017 on 17th December 2016 and 7th January & 8th January 2017. The written exams for filling up vacancies of PGT, TGT and PRT positions were conducted in 34 cities across the country.
Recruitment process for 6,206 teaching positions is still going on with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) releasing the OMR sheets and Answer Keys for the post of PGT, TGT and PRT Recruitment Examination conducted on 7th January and 8th January 2017. The KVS has also released the Final Answer Keys and Interview Schedule & Names of the candidates shortlisted for the vacant posts of Principal. Once this recruitment process is over, the recruited teachers and principals will be posted in various Kendriya Vidyalaya across India.
HRD Minister also added that the recruitment process for filling up the remaining 4,473 vacant posts in KVs has begun through Limited Departmental Examination (LDE) and CBSE has been roped in as the recruiting agency for the remaining vacant posts. While talking about the vacant posts in KVs located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Javadekar commented that there are 31 KVs in total in the state and 449 teaching positions are vacant there.
He added that the whopping number of 10,000 vacancies in KVs can’t be filled immediately and the recruiting and filling up the vacant teaching positions is a continuous process. Filling up the vacancies will take time and action regarding the same is taken according to the provisions of the relevant recruitment rules, said Javadekar.
Salary for Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan
When asked about the salary that will be paid to the contractual teachers being recruited by KVS, the Minister answered that all three categories of teachers i.e. PGT, TGT and PRT will get the same pay scale. Additionally, the government is now aiming to employ more permanent staff, he added.

Apart from the huge number of vacancies in Kendriya Vidyalayas, there is another good news for the teachers. Javadekar also added that the government is in talks with the Centre and State governments concerned for opening of new Kendriya Vidyalayas. He also announced that opening up of 35 new Kendriya Vidyalayas was approved by the cabinet on Wednesday. The proposals for starting two new KVs in the Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh were also received by the Centre and the same were found to be feasible, added the Minister.
At present, there is no information about when the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) will release the new employment notification for the remaining 4,473 vacancies in the Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country. The announcement of over 10,000 vacant seats in the Kendriya Vidyalayas has assured the interested candidates that the KVS will announce a new employment notification for the remaining vacancies in KVs very soon.
When KVS releases the official advertisement for KVS Recruitment 2017, the interested candidates can check the same on the official website of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan http://www.kvsangathan.nic.in/. The details of the vacancies as well as the total number of vacancies in KVs will be shared on the official website. KVS Recruitment 2016
Last year, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan had released the official notification for 6206 vacancies of Principals, TGTs, PGTs and PRTs in the Kendriya Vidyalayas. The online registration process that began on 27th September, 2016 came to an end on 17th October, 2016. The recruitment exam for the vacancies of Principals in KVs was held on 17th December, 2016 whereas the recruitment exam for PGT, TGT and PRT vacancies in KVs was conducted on 7th January and 8th January, 2017. The KVS has released the OMR Sheets and Answer Keys for the PGT, TGT and PRT vacancies and it will announce the results soon.
The HRD Minister has announced that there are 4.473 more vacancies of teaching posts in KVs. So, if you are one of those candidates who because of some reason failed to apply for the KVS Recruitment 2016 can apply for the vacancies through the new official advertisement for KVS Recruitment 2017. The KVS will release the new KVS Recruitment 2017 official advertisement soon.
Though there has been no information about the eligibility criteria for KVS Recruitment 2017, the interested candidates can refer to the eligibility criteria as mentioned in the advertisement for KVS Recruitment 2016.
NOTE: The below mentioned eligibility criteria is for KVS Recruitment 2016 and should be used only for reference purpose
For the Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs)
- Candidates must have a Master’s Degree from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks in aggregate in the subject applied for the vacancy.
- Must have B.Ed. or equivalent qualifying degree from a recognized university.
- Expertise of teaching in both Hindi and English medium
For the Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs)
- Candidates must have completed integrated degree course of four years from Regional College of Education of NCERT in the concerned subject applied for with at least 50% marks in aggregate OR a Bachelor’s Degree with atleast 50% marks in the concerned subject/ combination of subjects in aggregate
- Candidates should have passed the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) Paper-II
- Expertise of teaching in both English and Hindi medium
For the Primary Teacher
- Candidates must have passed Class 12th with 50% marks or its equivalent in the qualifying exam
- Should have passed CTET conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education
- Expertise in teaching in both Hindi and English medium
- Candidates with knowledge of computer applications will be given preference
It is to be noted that the above mentioned eligibility criteria for PGT, TGT and PRT is as per the advertisement released for KVS Recruitment 2016.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan will release the official advertisement for KVS Recruitment 2017 for filling up 4,473 vacancies very soon.
