General Preparation Tips For PSTET 2021
- Exam pattern and syllabus
PSTET is conducted in two papers Paper I and II. Paper I is for primary stage teachers and Paper II is for elementary stage teachers. The primary stage involves classes I to V while elementary involves VI to VIII. For Paper I there are a total of five subjects namely Language I, Child development and pedagogy, Language II, Environmental Studies, and Mathematics. The questions shall be multiple choice questions where four options shall be provided for a question and the student shall select one of the options. In paper I each subject shall have 30 questions of 1 mark for each question making a total of 150 questions.
For the second paper, there are four subjects namely Language I, Language II, Child Development and Pedagogy, Social Studies or Science and Mathematics. The paper shall comprise 150 questions with 1 mark each. A student should be well aware of the syllabus of the exam they are competing for.
- Complete the syllabus of PSTET 2022
It is important for a student to complete the PSTET syllabus with each topic and concept. A student should not bifurcate the important topics the first time of complete the syllabus. The whole syllabus should be completed at least once. The concepts can be prioritized at the time of revisions for a better grasp of topics with high weightage.
For completing the syllabus students must have study materials that are most recommended by the students. There are many authors but students should prefer books which are easy to understand and suit them best. NCERT is considered the most efficient way to clear the base for students of PSTET.
- Make self-written notes
Students are suggested to make their own notes while studying from the study material to better understand and revise the topics. Self-made notes can be very effective at the time of revision and a few days before the examination. Notes summarise the topics and students feel less burdened at the time of exams to revise the topic. It boosts the confidence of candidates giving them a strong belief that they have studied the whole topic and they possess the knowledge.
- Mock Test Papers
Practicing questions which are similar to the exam questions can be very helpful while preparing for the TSTET 2022. There are various mock test papers from various coaching institutions on the Internet. Students are advised to only attempt the mock test papers once they are done with their revisions. Attempting Mock papers without proper preparation might not fetch you good results.
- Previous years papers
The previous year’s papers are available on the website for the reference of students. The crucial point of solving past year’s question papers and mock test papers is time management. During the exams, the candidate has to effectively utilize the time provided and complete the exam to the best of their knowledge. By solving the papers beforehand and creating the same atmosphere as that of an exam with the specified time limit, candidates shall learn and perform better in the main exam.
Subject wise preparation for PSTET 2022
PSTET comprises two papers in the exam. The papers are designed to test the knowledge of the candidates as a teacher. It is essential to keep the focus on each one of the subjects. Child Development and Pedagogy
For the child development subject, it is important to have a basic knowledge of the topic. The questions asked in this subject are based on the characteristics of learners and the qualities of a facilitator. It tests the applicant’s ability to teach and cognitive skills. Candidates should focus on topics related to Child psychology, growth, temperament. The subject is of 30 marks and if prepared well a student can easily score 25+. The candidate needs thorough revision on the subject.
Punjabi(Language)
The Punjabi language subject checks the instructional skills of the candidate. The subject covers 40% of the Pedagogy part out of the total questions asked.
English (Language)
Language 2 of the paper comprises basic grammar, communication skills, and the ability to understand the subject. The applicants should practice their hands-on basic grammar like antonym, synonym, active voice, passive voice, direct and indirect speech, vocabulary, comprehension passages. For the vocabulary section, one word can be learned each day and grammar requires practice to master.
Mathematics and Science
Candidates should get themselves well versed with Advanced mathematics, Geometry, Mensuration, Number system, LCM & HCF, Interest related questions, probability, pie chart, etc. It is important to improve calculation skills and accuracy to solve a particular question. Science shall consist of study on all the basic parts eg. Physics, Biology, Chemistry. For this subject, candidates can refer to the NCERT books for basic knowledge.
Environmental Science
Candidates should revise the topics of the solar system, weather, climate, evaporation, condensation, precipitation, types of rainfall, types of soil, climate changes, etc. Mainly the focus should be the syllabus of class I to V.
Social Studies
This subject involves the study of History, Geography, and Politics. It is important for the candidate to be aware of the recent news. NCERT books can be purchased for basic knowledge of the subjects

About PSTET
PSTET is commonly known as the Punjab State Teachers Eligibility Test. It is regulated by the State Council of Education Research Punjab. It takes part in the primary and elementary stages. The notification for PSTET examinations has not been released yet on the official website. It is a three-hour exam of offline mode for which application is made through online mode. The date of the exam shall be updated soon. Candidates qualifying paper I are eligible to teach the students of class I to V in the Punjab state. Candidates qualifying for paper II are eligible for teaching the students of class VI to VIII. Scores can also be improved by giving the exams again.
