Punjab Plice SI Recruitment 2016 Eligibility Criteria
Age: The minimum age (as on 01 Jan 2016) for recruitment at the rank of Sub Inspector should be 18 years (both male and female) and maximum age should be 28 years. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes /Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes would be entitled to a relaxation in the upper age limit to the extent of 5 years.
Educational Qualification
For Sub Inspector Sportspersons (Male & Female)
- The minimum educational qualifications shall be Graduation for all candidates or its equivalent from a recognized University and the candidate must have passed matriculation examination with Punjabi as one of the compulsory or elective subjects or any other equivalent examination in Punjabi language.
For Sub-Inspector in District Police Cadre
- The minimum educational qualification for recruitment is Graduation as on date of advertisement or its equivalent from a recognized university.
- It is compulsory for each candidate to have passed matriculation examination with Punjabi as one of the compulsory/elective subjects passed at the level of Matriculation from a recognized education board / University.
For Sub Inspector (Operator)
The minimum educational qualifications will be as under: –
- Bachelor of Computer Application. (BCA), or
- Bachelor of Science. (Information Technology), or
- Bachelor of Engineering/ Bachelor of Technology in any of following
branches :-- Electronics & Communication Engineering (E&CE)
- Computer Science & Engineering (CSE)
- Information Technology Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Graduation in any other stream with “A” level Computer Course or above from National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology {NIELIT) or Department of Electronics and Accreditation of Computer Course {DOEACC) or Post Graduate Diploma/Post Graduation in Computer Application/Information Technology from any recognized University.

Exam Pattern
For Sub-Inspector in District Police Cadre
Examination will consist of Objective type questions and the candidates shall have to mark their responses on the OMR sheet. The examination would be based on topics viz. General Knowledge / Awareness on current National and International issues including knowledge about India and Punjab in particular, Mathematical ability, Information Technology and its applications, Numerical Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Analytical ability, General Mental ability, Decision Making and Problem Solving, Basic Numeracy and Data Interpretation, Comprehension etc.
For Sub Inspector (Operator)
An OMR Sheet based written test paper in English medium will be of 100 marks consisting of Multiple choice questions at as many Centers/ Sub Centers to be decided by the Chairman of the Board. The break-up of marks for written examination is as follows:-
Part I (25 marks) – Questions will be from General Knowledge, Current affairs (National & International), History, Geography, Economy and Polity of India in general and Punjab in particular Terrorism & Naxalism in India, Environmental Science.
Part II (25 marks) – Questions will be from Test of Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude & Reading Comprehension.
Part III (50 marks) – Questions will be from syllabus as enumerated below :
- Computer Software (20 Marks)
- Computer and Telecommunication Hardware (10 Marks)
Selection Process
For Sub Inspector Sportspersons (Male & Female)
The Selection Process shall consist of various stages as below:
- Scrutiny of application forms.
- Physical Trials consisting of Substance Abuse (Drug Addiction) Test and Physical Measurement Test (PMT).

Interview
Phase-I: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
All the candidates whose applications are found satisfactory after scrutiny and who qualify the preliminary medical test/ drug test/ dope test (if any) will be eligible to participate in the physical efficiency test. The candidates who qualify phase I will be eligible to appear in Phase II.
Phase-II: Physical Measurement
Qualified candidates from Phase-I will be screened for height measurement as per criteria. The candidates who qualify in Phase II will be eligible to appear in Phase III.
Phase-III: (OMR Sheet based written examination)
The candidates who qualify the Physical trials (SAT, PST and PMT) will be eligible for written test, which will be of Hundred (100) marks. The Examination will consist of Objective type questions and the candidates shall have to mark their responses on the OMR sheet.
Phase-IV: Interview
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of their personal bearing, communication skills, knowledge of computers, general awareness and general level of intelligence etc. and maximum five marks shall be awarded for the interview.
