UPSC IES Syllabus 2020 For General Studies and Engineering Aptitude (Common to all Candidates)
The paper level of General Studies and Engineering Aptitude (Preliminary Stage-I Examination) will be as of a degree of Engineering / Science. The standard of papers in other subjects will be about that of an Indian University’s Engineering Degree exam. In any of the subjects, there will be no practical examination.

Examination Scheme of UPSC IES 2020
Preliminary Examination:
The preliminary examination consists of two objective forms of question papers (multiple choices) with a limit of 500 marks (Paper I is 200 Marks and Paper II is 300 Marks). For every incorrect answer, 1/3rd or 0.33 of the marks is deducted.

Mains Examination
The main exam consists of two standard papers in the specific Engineering Discipline with a length of three hours and a maximum mark of 600 (300 Marks in each paper).
Two papers for each group, i.e. Group I (Civil Engineering), Category II (Mechanical Engineering), Category III (Electrical Engineering) and Category IV (Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering) shall be asked in the main examination.
