JPSC Civil Services 2021 Tie-breaking Criteria
Since lakhs of aspirants appear for the JPSC Combined Civil Services exam, there is a high possibility of two or more candidates scoring the same marks and getting allotted the same rank in the merit list. In order to resolve this tie, the Commission has prescribed certain rules to resolve the tie. The JPSC resolves the tie in the following order:
- If two or more candidates score equal aggregate marks, then the candidate who has obtained higher marks in the Mains Written Paper is assigned a higher rank.
- If the tie still persists, then the candidate who is older in age is placed higher.

JPSC Civil Services 2021 Selection Procedure
The JPSC Civil Services 2021 exam is conducted in two stages: Preliminary Round which consists of a written test and the Mains Round which consists of a written paper and an interview. The Preliminary Round is a screening test and the marks obtained in the preliminary round do not affect the ranking in the final merit list.
- Preliminary Round
A merit list in PDF format displaying the roll numbers of shortlisted candidates is released by the conducting body. There is no ranking system in the preliminary round. The preliminary round consists of two objective-type papers, each of 200 marks.
- Mains Round
The Mains results are released in a PDF format as well. However, the Mains exam consists of a written exam and an interview. The written exam is of descriptive type and consists of six papers with 950 marks weightage. The interview round carries a weightage of 100 marks. The marks scored in Mains determine the final ranking of the candidate on the merit list.
