BPSC Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Each BPSC exam has its own pattern. Most share a common shape — a screening Preliminary exam followed by a Main exam — but they differ in the papers, the final stage and the subject focus.

Combined Competitive Exam (CCE)

Prelims — one objective General Studies paper of 150 marks, used only to screen candidates for the Mains, with negative marking. Mains — descriptive papers (General Hindi as a qualifying paper, two General Studies papers, an Essay and an Optional paper). Interview — a personality test. The final merit is drawn from the Mains and the Interview.

School Teacher (TRE)

The Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE) is a single objective (OMR) paper, typically in three parts — a qualifying Language section, General Studies and the candidate's chosen subject — of about 150 marks. There is no interview; selection is on the written marks followed by document verification.

Assistant Engineer (AE)

The Assistant Engineer exam is an objective written examination across General English, General Hindi, General Studies, General Engineering Science and discipline-specific papers, with negative marking. There is no interview.
