UPSC CAPF Paper-1 Syllabus 2020
Below is the syllabus for UPSC CAPF written exam paper-1:
The question of paper-1 can be divided in to 6 sections which are as follows:
(i) General Mental Ability: This section consists of the following topics:
- Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Aptitude
- Numerical Ability
- Data Interpretation
(ii) General Science: The section consists of questions as per the day to day phenomena. The topics that are considered in this sections are:
- General awareness
- Scientific Temper
- Comprehension and appreciation of scientific phenomena
- Information Technology
- Environmental Science
(iii) Current Events of National and International Importance: This section includes questions from the current events of the country or the international events. These topics broadly covered in this section:
- Societal and Developmental issues
- Globalisation, and
- interplay among nations
(iv) Indian Polity and Economy: This section has questions from the general knowledge of the candidates about the politics and law of the country and the understanding of the economy of the country. Below are the broad classifications of the section:
- Country’s political system
- The Constitution of India
- Country’s social systems
- Public administration
- Economic development in India
- Regional and International security issues and
- Human rights
(v) History of India: The candidates must be well aware of the history of India and its heritage as well. They must have an understanding of the general development and fall of the country in various eras especially the nationalisation and freedom movements. Below is the broad division of this section:
- Social, economic and political aspects
- Growth of nationalism and freedom movement.
(vi) Indian and World Geography: The candidates must have a fair idea of the major geographical locations of the country and the World. The section covers physical, social and economic aspects of geography for the world as well as for the country.
UPSC CAPF Paper-2 Syllabus 2020
The paper-2 has general studies, essay and reading comprehensions in the question paper. The question paper has descriptive type questions only. There are 2 parts of the questions paper which are Essay questions and Comprehensions. The comprehensions are of 120 marks.
PART-A: The part A has questions of 80 marks only. It consists of long narratives which are to be written in either Hindi or English. Below are the topics which can be part of the essay:
- Modern Indian history especially of the freedom struggle
- Polity and Economy
- Knowledge of security and
- Knowledge of human rights issues
- Analytical Ability
PART-B: The reading comprehension is of 120 marks. Below are the topics that are included in this art:
- Comprehension passages
- Precise writing
- Developing counter arguments
- Simple grammar and
- Other aspects of language testing.
UPSC CAPF Exam Pattern
Below is the exam pattern that the candidates must refer to before preparing for the UPSC CAPF written exam:
Mode of Exam: Question paper is in offline pen-paper mode.
Language: Questions will be in either English or Hindi.
Duration of Paper: Paper-1 is of 2 hours.
Type of Questions: All the questions in the question paper are of objective type only with 4 options.

Marking Scheme: Each question carries 02 marks and there is a negative marking of 2/3 marks for the wrong questions.

Parts: Paper 2 has two parts – Part A and Part B. Part A has long narrative questions based on modern Indian history, geography, polity, economy, human rights issues, and analytical ability. Part B has a question based on comprehension, language skills.
How to Preparation for UPSC CAPF Exam
Below are the preparation tips that the candidates must consider while preparing for UPSC CAPF 2020:
Daily Newspapers For the Rescue: The question paper consists of current affairs questions in it. Candidates can be updated with the current affairs through simply reading news. Also, if they read the news in English this also helps them in attempting the reading comprehension section easily.
Exercise Daily: After the written exam, there is physical efficiency test where the candidates have to do short run, long run and long jump. The candidates must exercise on a daily basis to prepare for the PET round.
Pratise makes it easy: Practice as much as you can. For topics such as quantitative aptitude, and mental ability, the candidates have to pratise question daily. They must start with the easy question and then go to the tough ones.
Attempt Mock Tests: Mock tests help aspirants get an idea of the difficulty level of the exam. The candidates must attempt mock test and get an idea the exam and create a strategy to attempt the paper.
Previous year question papers: Previous year question papers help aspirants get an idea of each of the sections of the paper. The candidates can know the major topics for the exam and the important topics that must be prepared first.
Accuracy while attempting paper: The candidates need to maintain accuracy level while attending the exam. They must attempt the questions where they are 100% sure and then the questions where they are less than 100% sure about the answer. Never attempt the question where the candidates have doubt in more than 2 options of the question.
About UPSC CAPF 2020
The Central Armed Police Force exam is conducted by UPSC in the second half of the year. The selection procedure consists of a written exam, a physical eligibility and efficiency test, document verification round and personal interview. The personal interview consists of 150 marks. While the written exam consists of 450 marks divided into 2 papers. Candidates who clear the written exam are supposed to fill the detailed application form and then appear for the PET round. The result of PET round and personality test is a merit list with the names of the qualified candidates.
