About UPSC Geo Scientist Exam

The Union Public Service Commission recruits  Combined Geo-scientist and geologist applicants on the basis of 2 written exams and a personal interview. The preliminary test takes place in the first stage in an objective format divided into 2 papers of 2 hours each. Paper 1 of the preliminary exam examines the aptitude of a candidate. Questions from General Studies are framed for 100 marks in this paper. The second paper is a compulsory subject where questions are framed for a total of 300 marks. Negative marking for any question in this exam is 1/3rd of the total marks allotted to that particular question. Applicants qualifying for the preliminary test become eligible to apply for the assessment of the main of the Geo-Scientist exam. The mains exam is followed by a personal interview session, for candidates qualifying for the mains exam.
