SSC CPO Selection Process
Last verified 31 Jul 2026
SSC CPO selection runs through the stages below, each of which must be cleared in sequence.
- Paper-I (Computer Based Examination)
- Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (PE&MT)
- Paper-II (Computer Based Examination)
- Detailed Medical Examination
- Document Verification
The physical test sits between the two papers
Unlike most SSC exams, the Physical Endurance and Measurement Test comes after Paper-I and before Paper-II. Candidates who fail the PE&MT do not sit Paper-II at all, so physical preparation cannot be deferred until after the written stages.
Document Verification
Original certificates are checked against everything declared in the application โ qualification, category, age and any relaxation claimed. Certificates must be in the prescribed formats and dated on or before the cut-off date in the notice.
Final merit
Merit is prepared from the marks that count for this examination, and candidates are allotted posts by merit-cum-preference against the reported vacancies.
