The UGC-NET December 2026 result is not out: the exam is scheduled for 14 to 18 December 2026 and 21 December 2026, and NTA lists the result date as "To be announced later". The latest declared result is for June 2026, released on 28 August 2026 for 84 subjects and on 17 September 2026 for English, Commerce and Sociology, which were re-examined on 9 and 10 September 2026.

Which dates apply to December 2026?

NTA's opening notice of 8 October 2026 gave the exam as 14 December 2026 to 19 December 2026 and called those dates tentative. The Information Bulletin updated on 16 October 2026 now lists 14 December 2026 to 18 December 2026 and 21 December 2026, with city intimation on 23 November 2026 and admit cards on 7 December 2026. The result will be hosted on ugcnet.nta.nic.in, and NTA does not intimate candidates individually.

How does NTA decide who qualifies in UGC-NET?

Chapter 11.3 of the bulletin sets out the steps:

  1. The number qualifying for Assistant Professor eligibility equals 6% of the candidates who appeared in both papers.
  2. Those slots are divided among categories as per the Government of India reservation policy.
  3. To be considered at all, you must have appeared in both papers and secured at least 40% aggregate (General/Unreserved and General-EWS) or 35% (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD/PwBD and Third gender). Out of 300, that is 120 marks and 105 marks.
  4. Subject-wise, category-wise cut-offs are then derived from each subject's share of candidates above that minimum.
  5. JRF slots are allocated among categories separately.

For the June 2026 retest, NTA's notice of 16 August 2026 said the Assistant Professor count would be 6% of candidates who appeared in the June 2026 test or the retest, "whichever is higher", and that numbers already allocated to a subject would not be reduced.

Marks, percentile and normalisation

Paper I has 50 questions and Paper II 100, two marks each, with no negative marking, for 300 marks in all. Each subject is planned in a single shift. The score card then shows a Percentile Score, but qualification and cut-offs are decided on marks, not on the percentile. If a subject has to run in more than one shift, its marks are normalised by the Equi-percentile method, and the 40%/35% minimum and the cut-offs are applied to the normalised marks. There is no re-evaluation or re-checking of the result.

What each result category gives you

  • JRF and Assistant Professor: the JRF offer is valid for three years from the date of the JRF Award Letter.
  • Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admission, and Ph.D. admission only: for Ph.D. admission, NET marks carry 70% weightage and the university interview 30%, and the marks stay valid for one year from the result.
  • Candidates who applied while in the final year of their Master's must complete it with the required percentage within two years of the NET result, or within one year if they qualify for Ph.D. admission only.

Score card and e-certificate

The NTA score card login asks for Application Number, Password and a security PIN. Its disclaimer says the online score card is for immediate intimation, while the authoritative score card and JRF e-certificate are issued through DigiLocker. E-certificates for June 2026 were notified on 24 September 2026; for problems, write to [email protected] or [email protected]. NTA keeps UGC-NET records for 90 days from the result, and legal issues are entertained only if raised within 30 days of it.
