KTET Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Each KTET category is a single paper of 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks, over 2 hours 30 minutes, with no negative marking. The paper is built around three strands — child development and pedagogy, language, and the subject content of the level concerned — with the exact composition set by the category.

The four categories

  • Category I — Lower Primary teacher, covering the LP-stage subjects and their pedagogy.
  • Category II — Upper Primary teacher, covering the UP-stage subjects and their pedagogy.
  • Category III — High School teacher, covering the subject at the high-school standard and its pedagogy.
  • Category IV — Language teachers (Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu), specialist and physical education teachers.
