What the 2023 paper covers
The booklet is printed in two parts. Part A is the Compulsory Tamil Language Eligibility Test: 30 questions for 50 marks in 30 minutes, set at Class 10 standard. Part B is the main paper of 150 one-mark multiple-choice questions in 3 hours, with 110 marks for the general paper (Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biology, History and Geography at degree level), 10 for General Knowledge and 30 for Educational Methodology.
The Educational Methodology questions follow the "Child Psychology and Pedagogy" part of the BEO syllabus, which ends with a unit on the History of Educational Development in Tamil Nadu, including the roles and responsibilities of CEOs, DEOs and BEOs.
How to use the paper
- Attempt Part A within 30 minutes. It is qualifying at 40% (20 marks), and the main answer sheet is evaluated only if you clear it.
- Attempt Part B in one 3-hour sitting, as the 2023 exam was a single OMR paper.
- Score Part B against the Set A key and compare it with the minimum qualifying marks of 75 (others), 67.5 (SC) and 60 (ST).
- Only Part B marks decide the rank; the general paper carries 110 of its 150 marks.
Syllabus areas to revise alongside the paper
- Part A: the Tamil eligibility syllabus at high school level.
- Part B core subjects (110 marks): History of Tamil Literature, History of English Literature, Mathematical Aptitude and Mental Ability, General Science, History and Constitutional Development, and the Geography and Economy of India.
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs (10 marks).
- Child Psychology and Pedagogy (30 marks): growth and development, cognitive development, learning, intelligence, motivation, personality, mental health, guidance and educational development in Tamil Nadu.
