What the 2023 booklet looks like

The Session I booklet is titled "English, General Studies and Arithmetics", carries full marks of 100, and says it has 24 pages including the front page, with 100 questions. Every question has four options, (A) to (D), and answers go on a separate OMR sheet. The paper opens with English items such as choosing the correct preposition and finding a synonym.

What to practise from them

  • English (30 marks): vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and correct usage.
  • General Studies (40 marks): everyday science, current events with special reference to India, and elementary Indian History and Indian Geography.
  • Arithmetic (30 marks): fractions, decimals, HCF and LCM, percentage, ratio, simple interest, profit and loss, time and distance, and area of rectangles and squares.

The standard of the examination is similar to the Madhyamik examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

How to use them

  1. Sit one session's paper in a single 1 hour 30 minute block, the Part-I duration.
  2. Mark it with the final key for your booklet series: plus 1 for a correct answer and minus 0.25 for a wrong one. Questions marked with an asterisk in the final key gave 1 mark to every candidate.
  3. Split your score by section, English 30, General Studies 40 and Arithmetic 30, and revise the weak section from the official syllabus.
  4. For reference, the General category cut-off in the 2023 Part-I was 49 marks.

Part-II (English and a second language, 50 marks each) is conventional; the Commission has not posted a Clerkship 2023 Part-II paper on the question paper page.
