The original closing date of 26 October 2026 (up to 3:30 p.m.) was extended to 1 November 2026 by the Commission's Important Announcement No. 351/PSC(I) dated 25 October 2026.

Vacancies

The Commission has not yet published vacancy numbers for the 2024 cycle; the advertisement says the number of vacancies will be announced later and that all appointments will initially be on a temporary basis. For reference, the result notice of the Clerkship Examination 2019 listed 7,227 vacancies across categories.

Exam pattern in brief

Part-I is an objective paper of 100 questions for 100 marks (English 30, General Studies 40, Arithmetic 30) lasting 1 hour 30 minutes, with negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer. Part-II is a conventional written paper of 1 hour with Group-A English and Group-B Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali or Santali, 50 marks each. The standard is similar to the Madhyamik examination.

Selection process

  1. Part-I (objective): only a limited number of candidates obtaining qualifying marks move on to Part-II, which is held on a later date notified by the Commission.
  2. Part-II (conventional written): English and a second-language paper.
  3. Computer and typing test: elementary computer operation and typing ability are judged only after a candidate qualifies in Part-I and Part-II.

The final merit list is drawn up on the total marks of Part-I and Part-II, provided the candidate qualifies in the computer and typing test. A candidate who qualifies for Part-II but does not appear in it is left out of the final merit list. The category-wise qualifying marks in aggregate are UR 40%, EWS 40%, OBC 38%, SC 35%, ST 30%, PwBD 30%, Ex-Servicemen 30% and Meritorious Sports Person 40%. Ties go to the higher aggregate in English and the second language, then the higher English mark, then the higher age.

Filling up posting options is mandatory: you rank the Secretariat Departments, Directorates and the Regional Offices, including District offices of one particular district or Kolkata. Selected candidates then appear before a Medical Board and undergo police verification of antecedents before appointment.

Salary

The posts carry Pay Level 6, ₹22,700 to ₹58,500, besides D.A., M.A. and H.R.A. admissible under ROPA, 2019.

For queries on the 2024 advertisement, the Commission gives the e-mail ID [email protected].
