Growing up in Raghunathpur village, Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, Pawan Kumar’s early education at a government school faced limitations. Sent to his maternal uncle’s residence in Roopwas Pachgaon for enhanced schooling, he witnessed glaring disparities between his life and those with parental support. This ignited within him a resolute determination to change his circumstances through education.

During his primary education, Mr. Manoj Solanki, the principal, and Mr. Sanjay Solanki, a teacher, recognized Pawan’s potential. They encouraged him to pursue his aspirations of becoming an IAS officer, a concept he did not fully grasp at the time.

After completing class eight, Pawan enrolled in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, which proved transformative. Initially, he faced competition from students with more privileged backgrounds. The challenges of the CBSE board and English as the medium of instruction were formidable. However, his unwavering hard work and the support of his seniors enabled him to overcome these obstacles.

Pursuing the UPSC Dream

Pawan’s exposure to the UPSC Civil Services Examination came through teachers who had prepared for or were familiar with it. Inspired by the names of R.K. Yadav, Rakesh Verma, and B.R. Bhadavar, he aspired to achieve this prestigious goal.

After completing class 12 with a remarkable 89%, Pawan briefly contemplated pursuing engineering through IIT. However, his family’s financial situation made this impractical. Instead, he chose to pursue a BA in humanities at Allahabad University.

During his university years, Pawan realized the paramount importance of staying abreast of current affairs. He immersed himself in reading the Indian Express newspaper, initially struggling with the English but gradually enhancing his fluency.

Preparing for the Civil Services

In his second year of BA, Pawan began earnestly considering UPSC preparation. He familiarized himself with the syllabus and recommended sources through toppers and experts. Recognizing the need for additional support in specific optional subjects, he faced the financial hurdle of coaching expenses.

His family rallied to his aid, recognizing his passion and arranging for his coaching expenses. Pawan opted for coaching in Prayagraj and dedicated the final year of his graduation to preparing for the optional. If you want to do UPSC coaching then Sanskriti IAS can be a better option for you.

2021 Prelims Attempt

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted Pawan’s plans and forced him to return home in 2020. Undeterred, he commenced studying for the General Studies (GS) portion of the exam despite the lack of a smartphone and internet access.

The postponement of the Prelims exam provided additional time for preparation. Pawan devoted himself to his studies, ultimately falling short of qualifying by a mere one mark.

Failure and Determination

The setback in the Prelims exam was a crushing blow, but Pawan refused to surrender. His parents and friends provided unwavering support, urging him to persevere.

Moving to Delhi for Preparation

Analyzing his failure, Pawan identified the lack of a conducive study environment at home. He made the decision to relocate to Delhi, India’s coaching hub for the UPSC exam, where he would have access to superior resources and mentorship.

With the assistance of his friends, Pawan secured shared accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar. Initially, the bustling atmosphere of the coaching district, teeming with UPSC materials and dedicated students, intimidated him. However, he maintained focus on his studies and cultivated a positive mindset.

2022 Prelims Attempt

Pawan’s time in Delhi proved instrumental in refining his preparation. He diligently addressed his weaknesses and bolstered his confidence.

In the 2022 Prelims exam, his efforts bore fruit, as he qualified for the Mains stage of the examination.

Mains and Interview

Pawan continued his rigorous preparation for the Mains exam, emphasizing both subject knowledge acquisition and answer writing skills. Additionally, he participated in mock interviews to enhance his communication and presentation abilities.

After successfully clearing the Mains exam, Pawan faced the daunting Interview stage. Despite his nerves, he meticulously prepared, presenting his thoughts with clarity and confidence. He demonstrated his grasp of current affairs and his suitability for the esteemed IAS (Indian Administrative Service).

Final Result and Conclusion

Pawan’s unwavering efforts culminated in a joyous moment when he received the final result, securing the 239th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. His journey, marked by challenges, perseverance, and the unwavering support of his loved ones, culminated in this extraordinary triumph.

Pawan’s story serves as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging others to embrace their dreams and to never relinquish their aspirations. With hard work, determination, and the right mindset, any goal, no matter how formidable, can be achieved.
