Ravi Malik’s Extraordinary Journey to Becoming a Delhi Police Sub Inspector

Esteemed readers, allow me to introduce myself as Ravi Malik, a man whose humble beginnings led him on an extraordinary journey to the prestigious position of Sub Inspector in the esteemed Delhi Police. Securing the coveted All India Rank 36 in the 2019 CPO examination stands as a testament to the unyielding spirit that propelled me to overcome countless challenges.

From Modest Roots to a Dream Unfurled

My origins trace back to a humble village nestled near Rohtak. My early education was spent in a local government school, where my focus leaned more towards extracurricular activities than academic pursuits. As a result, my academic standing remained below average. However, a life-changing event would set me on a path that would lead to greatness.

Facing the Challenges of a New Culture and Language

Due to family circumstances, we relocated to the bustling metropolis of Delhi. This transition presented a formidable challenge as my education had been conducted in Hindi, leaving me lacking in English fluency. The contrast was stark as I found myself surrounded by peers who effortlessly conversed in English. Their laughter at my Haryanvi speech filled me with apprehension and self-doubt.

From Psychology to Police Aspiration

Despite these initial hurdles, I discovered my passion for government service while pursuing a degree in Psychology from the renowned Delhi University. Witnessing firsthand the transformative power of law enforcement in the stories of those it serves inspired me to embark on the path to becoming a police officer.

Conquering the English Barrier

Overcoming my deficiency in English became my paramount focus. Believing that the field-oriented nature of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) aligned with my aspirations, I joined the organization. I excelled in NCC, earning an impressive A grade certificate. However, my English remained a stumbling block, exposing me to further mockery due to my noticeable accent.

Embarking on the Path to Success

After completing my undergraduate studies, I resolutely set my sights on becoming a police officer. Recognizing the fierce competition for the coveted position in the Delhi Police, I relocated to Mukherjee Nagar, a hub for coaching institutions. While the sheer number of aspirants initially discouraged me, I remained unwavering in my determination to overcome all challenges that stood in my way.

Establishing an Unwavering Routine

I meticulously crafted a daily routine, dedicating specific time slots for English and Mathematics. I created separate diaries for vocabulary and English language proficiency. My dedication was such that I would often pause my music at night to jot down new vocabulary words before drifting off to sleep.

Triumphing Over Physical Adversity

My physical fitness journey also encountered an unexpected setback. Two weeks before the physical examination, I suffered a severe foot injury that significantly hindered my ability to walk. However, the pain and uncertainty could not extinguish my ardent desire to wear the Delhi Police uniform.

Perseverance and Triumph

The pain persisted throughout the physical examination, and I was unable to complete the high jump due to my injury. Nonetheless, my unwavering determination propelled me to complete the race. Despite these setbacks, my performance in the written examination gave me a glimmer of hope.

The Importance of a Positive Mindset

In the face of adversity, maintaining a positive mindset is crucial. I learned to filter out negative influences and focused solely on my goal. Seeking support from family and friends played a vital role in my journey.

Effective Strategies for English Proficiency

My approach to improving my English proficiency involved several effective strategies. I extensively utilized audio recordings of vocabulary words, listening to them while sleeping. This aided in significantly expanding my vocabulary.

Overcoming the Hindi Medium Barrier

For students from Hindi medium backgrounds, the transition to English can be a daunting task. However, I diligently maintained a separate diary for unfamiliar words encountered in mock tests and examinations, gradually strengthening my vocabulary. Practice and perseverance were key to my success in this area.

The Power of Goal-Setting

Goal-setting serves as a powerful motivator. I established daily targets for English and Mathematics, ensuring that I completed all assigned tasks. Consistency and discipline were the cornerstones of my preparation.

Distancing from Negative Influences

Surrounding yourself with positive individuals is essential. I distanced myself from those who doubted my abilities or discouraged my aspirations. The belief that I could achieve my goal, regardless of my background or challenges, fueled my determination.

Embracing Self-Reliance

Learning to solve problems independently is invaluable. Instead of constantly seeking assistance, I dedicated time to understanding the concepts and finding solutions on my own. This approach not only enhanced my problem-solving skills but also instilled a sense of self-confidence. If you want to prepare for a difficult exam like UPSC then Khan Global Studies can be a better option for you.

The Power of a Positive Attitude

Optimism is a potent force. Believing in my abilities, even during challenging times, helped me stay motivated and focused on my goal. I recognized that the job of a police officer is not solely about pursuing a career but also about making a meaningful difference in society.

Encouraging Aspiring Candidates

My journey from a below-average student to a Sub Inspector in the Delhi Police is a testament to the power of perseverance, self-belief, and unwavering determination. While obstacles may arise along the way, it is our response to those challenges that ultimately defines our success. I encourage all aspiring candidates to embrace a positive attitude, work hard, and never give up on their dreams. Remember, with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
