RRB JE 2026 Syllabus and Exam Pattern: Subject Wise Marks

The RRB JE exam pattern under CEN 04/2026 is set out below, with negative marking of 1/3 mark per wrong answer and normalisation of marks where the CBT runs across multiple shifts.

RRB JE exam pattern

JE runs a two-stage CBT. CBT-2 carries 150 questions and is where the technical depth sits — its Technical Abilities section is specific to the engineering discipline of the post you applied for.

The non-technical portion is common to every post under this CEN: General Awareness, Physics and Chemistry (to Class 10 CBSE level), Basics of Computers and Applications, and Basics of Environment and Pollution Control.

Qualifying marks

UR and EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%. PwBD candidates may receive a 2-mark relaxation where there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies.

Common non-technical syllabus (CBT-2)

• General Awareness — current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history including the freedom struggle, Indian polity and constitution, Indian economy, environmental issues, sports, and scientific and technological developments.
• Physics and Chemistry — up to Class 10 CBSE level.
• Basics of Computers and Applications — computer architecture, input and output devices, storage, networking, operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux), MS Office, data representation, internet and email, websites and browsers, computer viruses.
• Basics of Environment and Pollution Control — adverse effects of pollution and control strategies, air, water and noise pollution, waste management, global warming, acid rain, ozone depletion.
• Technical Abilities — specific to the post applied for.

Normalisation of marks

Where the CBT is held in multiple sessions on the same syllabus, shortlisting uses normalised marks rather than raw scores, so candidates who sat harder shifts are not disadvantaged.
