RRB Group D Exam Pattern & Syllabus

The RRB Group D exam pattern for CEN 09/2025 is a single Computer Based Test of 100 questions carrying 100 marks in 90 minutes, covering General Intelligence & Reasoning (30), Mathematics (25), General Science (25) and General Awareness & Current Affairs (20), with 1/3 negative marking.

Duration is 90 minutes, extended to 120 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe. Every question carries one mark and is objective type with multiple choices. The notification notes that the section-wise split is indicative and the actual paper may vary slightly.

Negative marking and qualifying marks

• 1/3 mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
• Minimum qualifying percentage: UR 40%, EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 30%.
• PwBD candidates may get a 2-mark relaxation where there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies.

RRB Group D Mathematics syllabus

Number system, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculations, calendar and clock, pipes and cistern.

RRB Group D General Intelligence & Reasoning syllabus

Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, statement–arguments and assumptions.

This is the highest-weighted section at 30 marks, and it is the most scoreable — the topics are pattern-based and reward practice rather than recall.

RRB Group D General Science syllabus

Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at Class 10 (CBSE) level. The notification is explicit about this ceiling, so NCERT Class 9 and 10 science textbooks are the correct preparation baseline.

RRB Group D General Awareness syllabus

Current affairs in science and technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics and other subjects of importance.

The notification adds that these topics are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive, so treat the list as a floor rather than a boundary.

Is there a second stage CBT?

Where a second stage CBT is deemed necessary and held, the Railway Administration reserves the right to treat the first stage CBT as a qualifying test used only to shortlist a reasonable number of candidates.
