CG TET Eligibility

CG TET eligibility follows the NCTE framework. The qualification you need depends on the paper you sit — that is, the level at which you intend to teach. Only teacher-training courses recognised by the NCTE (or, for special education, by the Rehabilitation Council of India) are accepted.

Paper I — to teach classes I to V

Any one of the following, completed or being pursued:

  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known); or
  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, as per the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002; or
  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education); or
  • Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

Paper II — to teach classes VI to VIII

Any one of the following, completed or being pursued:

  • Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education; or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year or 2-year B.Ed.; or
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and a 1-year B.Ed., as per the applicable NCTE regulations; or
  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.); or
  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed. or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.; or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year or 2-year B.Ed. (Special Education).

Relaxation and notes

Reserved-category candidates (SC / ST / OBC non-creamy-layer / Divyang) get a relaxation of up to 5% in the required academic marks. A candidate holding a D.Ed. or B.Ed. (Special Education) must, after appointment, complete a 6-month NCTE-recognised special training in elementary education.
