Karnataka TET Eligibility

Karnataka TET eligibility follows the NCTE framework. The qualification you need depends on the paper you sit. Only teacher-training courses recognised by the NCTE — or, for special education, by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) — are accepted; a candidate pursuing the final year of a recognised training course may also apply.

Paper 1 — to teach classes I to V

Any one of the following:

  • PUC / Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year D.El.Ed.; or
  • PUC / Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.); or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education); or
  • Graduation with a 2-year D.El.Ed.; or Graduation with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed.

Paper 2 — to teach classes VI to VIII

Any one of the following:

  • Graduation with a 2-year D.El.Ed.; or Graduation with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed. (or pursuing B.Ed.); or
  • PUC / Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 4-year B.El.Ed.; or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 2-year B.Ed. (Special Education).

Relaxation and notes

A relaxation of 5% marks in the required academic qualification is allowed to SC, ST, Category-1, and special/differently-abled candidates. Only NCTE-recognised diploma/degree courses (RCI for special education) are accepted. Confirm your own combination of degree and training qualification against the KARTET 2025 brochure before applying.
