GTET

GTET — the Goa Teacher Eligibility Test — is conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE), Alto Porvorim, on behalf of the Government of Goa. Held under the Right to Education Act, 2009 and the Goa Teacher Eligibility Test Rules, 2026, it is a qualifying test for teaching posts in the state's schools: Paper I is for those who intend to teach classes I to V, and Paper II for classes VI to VIII. A candidate who intends to teach at both levels sits both papers.

The examination is held across centres in North Goa and South Goa. Admit-card notifications are issued before the exam dates on the official website, gbshse.in.

Exam pattern and qualifying marks

Each paper has 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks, one mark each, with no negative marking, over two and a half hours. A candidate qualifies on scoring 60% (General) or 55% (SC / ST / OBC / differently-abled) in aggregate. The GTET certificate is valid for life.

GTET qualifies you to apply — it does not appoint you

Qualifying GTET does not confer any right to recruitment or employment. It is one of the eligibility conditions for appointment as a teacher in the Government, aided and private schools under the Government of Goa; the vacancy itself is filled through a separate recruitment process in which school managements give weightage to the GTET score.
