Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) is a Mini-Ratna-I company that functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Mines. It is a PSU or Public Sector Undertaking which was incorporated on 09th November 1967. The fact that it is India’s only vertically integrated copper producing company is enough to distinguish it from other Mini-Ratna companies. It manufactures copper right from infant stage to beneficiation, smelting, refining and casting of refined copper metal into saleable products.
The Company markets the copper wire bar, copper cathodes, cast copper rod and its by-products, such as:- anode slime, copper sulphate and sulphuric acid across nation. According to the estimates provided by the company, more than 90% of the sales revenue is generated from cathode and continuous cast copper rods. Moreover, as per the recent reports issued for the concluding financial year 2016-17, the Company has earned a net profit of Rs 61.94 crore against a sales turnover of Rs 1,216.94 crore.
Hindustan Copper Limited’s mines and plants are spread across 5 operating Units in the following states of:- Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Those units are:-
- Khetri Copper Complex (KCC) at Khetrinagar, Rajasthan
- Indian Copper Complex (ICC) at Ghatsila, Jharkhand
- Malanjkhand Copper Project (MCP) at Malanjkhand, Madhya Pradesh
- Taloja Copper Project (TCP) at Taloja, Maharashtra
- Gujarat Copper Project (GCP) at Jhagadia, Gujarat
The company has been contributing its major share towards technological improvements in mining. The new technologies that it has introduced are Trackless Mining, Drop Raising, Rock Bolting, Post Pillar Stoping, Oxygen Enrichment, Hydro-Metallurgy, etc.

All the posts are accounted for satisfaction of eligibility conditions and recruitment policies of the organisation. The company recruits candidates through various methods. While for some posts like Non-executives, selection is done through conducting written test / trade test of the short-listed candidates, for some like- Specialist (Surgery & Medicine) Dy. Manager, Blaster, there is Walk-in Interview.
The organisation has in the recent days signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI). MIDHANI is a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Defence. Both the companies have joined hands together for a joint collaboration in area of production of Copper-Nickel tubes and related items. The initiative is meant as a move to promote “Make in India” Initiative and create significant business synergy for HCL and MIDHANI.
