CTET Exam Pattern 2020 for Paper 1, 2 – The examination pattern for CTET 2020 is designed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted with 2 different levels – Primary level and Elementary level. Candidates who intend to teach class I to class V should prepare for Paper 1. Those who want to teach class VI to class VIII should prepare for Paper 2. We have provided here complete CTET 2020 exam pattern for Paper 1, 2. With the help of CTET exam pattern, candidates can understand the examination in a better way. CTET aspirants can also refer to the CTET 2020 exam pattern for their preparation and score well.

There are 2 papers in CTET 2020

  • Paper 1 – For those who wish to teach class I to class V
  • Paper 2 – For those who wish to teach class VI to class VIII

Note: If candidates intend to be a teacher of both levels, they have to take both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

CTET 2020 Exam Pattern for Paper 1

  • Mode of examination: For CTET Paper 1, an offline examination is conducted.
  • Language of the examination: Question are provided in bilingual format. The language options are Hindi and English.
  • Type of questions: Multiple choice questions are asked in Paper 1. Candidates have to choose one option as the answer.
  • Duration of examination: Paper 1 is for 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Maximum marks: 150 marks
  • A number of questions: 150 questions
  • Marking scheme:
For correct answer+1 mark
For incorrect answerNo negative marking

Nature and standard of Paper 1

  • The questions asked in child development and pedagogy are based on educational psychology of teaching and learning for 6 to 11 years children. Questions are based on diverse needs and understanding of the learners, interaction with them, and qualities of a good teacher.
  • Language 1 section is based on the medium of instruction of the candidate.
  • Language 2 section has questions based on communication, elements of language and their comprehension abilities.
  • Language 1 and langue 2 should be 2 different language. Candidates have to two languages out of the following languages as language 1 and language 2 for CTET 2020.
CTET Exam Pattern 2020
  • Questions of mathematics and environmental science are based on problem-solving abilities, their basic concepts, and pedagogical understanding. The syllabus of these subjects is that of NCERT for class I-V.
  • The questions are asked from the NCERT syllabus for CLass I to class V. However, the level of questions is up to the secondary stage.

CTET 2020 Exam Pattern for Paper 2

  • Mode of examination: Paper 2 is an OMR based (offline)examination.
  • Langage of the examination: Paper 2 is bilingual – Hindi and English.
  • Duration of examination: Paper 2 is conducted for 2 hours and 30 minutes
  • Type of questions: Objective type questions are asked in Paper 2.
  • Number of questions: 150 questions
  • Maximum marks: 150 marks
  • Marking scheme:
For correct answer+1 mark

Nature and standard of Paper 2

  • Section of child development and pedagogy focus on children of the age group 11 to 14 years. Questions are based on educational psychology of learning and teaching. understanding characteristics of different learners.
  • The questions asked in language 1 is designed to test the candidate’s medium of instruction.
  • The questions of language 2 are based on the elements of language, communication and comprehension ability of the candidate.
  • Language 1 and language 2 should be 2 different languages. Candidates can opt for any 2 languages from the languages given below for CTET 2020:
  • The test for mathematics and science or social studies have questions based on problem-solving, basic concepts and pedagogical understanding of subjects. The subjects have the syllabus as that of NCERT class VI to class VIII.
  • The questions asked in paper 2, have to the syllabus of NCERT class VI to class VIII. However, the level of the question is up to the senior secondary level.
