UPSC IFS Selection Procedure 2020
The selection procedure of UPSC IFS 2020 is done through following stages:
- Preliminary exam: A common civil services examination is conducted for both IAS and IFS. Civil services examination acts as a screening test for the selection of candidates for IFS (main).
- Main Exam:
- This is the main stage of the selection procedure as final selection is based on IFS main (written exam and interview round) exam. There are 6 sections in the mains paper. A total of 1400 marks are allotted to mains exam out of which candidates have to secure the minimum qualifying marks prescribed.
- Interview round: Candidates are called for interview round to test their personality. IFS interview round carries 300 marks with no minimum qualifying marks. The final ranking is based on written and interview round.

As mentioned above, candidates have to go through a personality test i.e interview round. The objective of this round is to check the suitability of the candidate for IFS service. Candidates are tested in a personality test not only based on their academic study but also their intelligent interest. Selected applicants are also tested on the basis of their knowledge about the current events happening in the country and around the world. Through this round, candidate’s mental qualities, conversation skills, intellectual curiosity, critical powers of observation, leadership skills, alertness of mind, etc are evaluated.
