- 24 Jul 2026 · upsc.gov.in UPSC Written Result: Engineering Services (Main) Examination, 2026 PDF
The ESE 2026 Main (Stage-II) result was declared on 24 July 2026, and the interviews for the 1336 candidates scheduled are set to end on 30 October 2026; the final result comes after that. The Prelims result came out on 26 February 2026. ESE 2027 starts again with its Prelims on 31 January 2027.
Stage-I: ESE Prelims result
The ESE 2026 Prelims result is a roll-number list split by discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics and Telecom). UPSC draws the list using minimum qualifying marks in both Paper-I and Paper-II, aiming at about six to seven times the vacancies. The Prelims marks of qualified candidates are counted in the final merit. Marks and cut-offs are uploaded only after the final result, and no change of centre or discipline is allowed for the Main.
Stage-II: ESE Main result
The Main result press note lists roll numbers qualified for the Personality Test from the 21 June 2026 Main, and every candidature is provisional. UPSC calls about twice the number of vacancies to interview; the 2026 notice put vacancies at approximately 474.
Qualified candidates had to log in between 07.08.2026 and 21.08.2026 till 06:00pm to upload proof of passing the qualifying examination, update details and service preferences, and submit the form. Details updated then are treated as final, and a late submission leads to cancellation. Originals of age, education, community and disability certificates must be produced at the interview, or the candidate is not allowed before the PT Board and gets no travel allowance.
Stage-III and the final ESE merit list
- The Personality Test carries 200 marks with no minimum qualifying marks.
- Final ranking adds Prelims, Main and Personality Test marks, out of 1300 in all (500 + 600 + 200).
- Ties go first to the higher total in the three engineering papers (Stage-I Paper-II and Stage-II Papers I and II) plus the interview, then to those three papers alone, then to the candidate senior in age.
- Services are allotted by rank and the preferences you give, subject to medical fitness. Recommended candidates undergo a medical examination as decided by the Department of Telecommunications, whose Medical Board findings are final.
When are ESE marks published?
The 2026 Main result note says mark-sheets of all candidates, qualified and not qualified, go up after the final result and stay online for 30 days, opened with Roll Number and Date of Birth. An authenticated copy can be requested within 30 days of the marks being displayed, with a self-addressed stamped envelope. In the 2025 cycle, the final result of 17 December 2025 recommended 458 candidates against 554 vacancies and kept a reserve list of 186. The marks of recommended candidates followed on 30 December 2025.
Interviewed candidates who are not recommended can be listed on the PRATIBHA Setu portal for registered employers if they consented, after the reserve list is used up. Employers see a short biodata and percentile, not marks.
