UPSC declared the Combined Geo-Scientist 2026 final result on 16 October 2026, and the cut-off marks followed on 21 October 2026. Candidates' marks are likely within fifteen days of the result. The next cycle starts with the CGS 2027 Prelims on 10 January 2027.

Who was recommended in CGS 2026?

The final result press note gives merit lists after the 8 February 2026 Prelims, the 20 and 21 June 2026 Main and interviews in September 2026. The recommended candidates were:

  • Geologist, Group A: 20
  • Scientist B (Hydrogeology) Group A / Assistant Hydrogeologist Group B: 22
  • Geophysicist / Scientist B (Geophysics) Group A / Assistant Geophysicist Group B: 04
  • Chemist, Group A: 16
  • Scientist B (Chemical), Group A: 02, and Assistant Chemist, Group B: 02

A consolidated reserve list holds 02 names for the hydrogeology posts and 02 for the geophysics posts. Where a recommended candidate's result is provisional, it stays valid for three months from the final result. If the documents are not sent in that time, the candidature is cancelled.

CGS results stage by stage

  • Stage-I (Prelims): roll-number lists by stream, drawn on minimum qualifying marks in both papers, about six to seven times the vacancies. In 2026 it came on 2 March 2026. Marks and cut-offs are released only after the final result.
  • Stage-II (Main): three descriptive papers per stream. The 2026 Main result of 20 July 2026 listed roll numbers for interview, with candidature provisional. Qualified candidates had to update their educational qualification and upload proof on the Common Application Form.
  • Stage-III (Personality Test): 200 marks with no minimum qualifying marks, for about twice the number of vacancies. The 2026 schedule covered 200 candidates from 15.09.2026 to 18.09.2026.

How the CGS final merit is worked out

Final marks are out of 1200: Stage-I out of 400, Stage-II out of 600 and the interview out of 200. The CGS 2026 cut-off document adds a floor of 20% marks in each paper at both Stage-I and Stage-II for non-PwBD candidates, and 5% for PwBD candidates.

Ties go first to the higher total in your stream's subject papers plus the interview, then to the subject papers alone, then to the candidate senior in age. The senior-in-age rule was set by a corrigendum of 31 October 2025, which replaced "younger in age" in the CGS 2026 notice. Posts are allotted by merit position and the preference of services or posts opted. Appointment follows only after pre-appointment formalities and verifications.

When are CGS marks published?

The 2026 Main result note says mark-sheets go online within 15 days of the final result and stay for 30 days, opened with Roll Number and date of birth. A printed copy can be requested within thirty days, with a self-addressed stamped envelope. In 2025 the marks of recommended candidates came on 6 November 2025, after the 29 October 2025 final result. For queries, the UPSC Call Centre answers on 011-40303444/24041001 from 09:00 AM to 08:00 PM.
