RRB Group D salary structure
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Pay level | Level 1, 7th CPC Pay Matrix |
| Initial basic pay | ₹18,000 per month |
| Dearness Allowance | As per prevailing central government rate, revised periodically |
| House Rent Allowance | Depends on the class of the posting city (X, Y or Z) |
| Transport Allowance | As per city classification |
| Other benefits | Railway pass facility, medical attendance, provident fund, pension under NPS |
Because HRA and Transport Allowance are city-linked, two candidates on identical basic pay can take home noticeably different amounts — a metro posting pays more in allowances than a rural one.

Career growth
Level 1 is the entry grade, and promotion to higher levels comes through departmental seniority and selection, alongside Limited Departmental Competitive Examinations. Many railway employees progress well beyond Level 1 over a career, and the railway pass facility and pension benefits are a significant part of the total value of the job.
