SSC Stenographer Exam Syllabus

- General Intelligence and Reasoning: Verbal and non-verbal type questions regarding analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, and arithmetical number series.
- General Awareness: The candidate’s knowledge regarding current affairs as well as their ability to observe these events through a scientific lens is tested as well. Questions related to sports, history, culture, geography, economics, the general polity of India and its neighboring countries are asked.
- English Language and Comprehension: Questions related to English language vocabulary, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and their correct usage as well as writing ability will be asked.
- Stenographer skill test: Candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes either in English or Hindi which the candidates have to type at 100 w.p.m for Grade ‘C’ positions and 80 w.p.m for Grade ‘D’ positions.

The SSC Stenographer exam is conducted in two stages where stage 1 is an objective-type computer-based exam and stage 2 is a stenographer skill test. The exam pattern is tabulated for the reader’s convenience below.

SSC Stenographer 2022 Preparation Tips
- To tackle the computer-based exam, revise the syllabus thoroughly by solving the practice sets, mock exams, and previous years’ exam question papers once you have finished reading all the reference books.
- Practice typing the grammalogues and short forms of stenography daily as most of the skill test is based on these forms. Practice typing out formal speech used in government documents and correspondences as well.
- Develop the habit of typing a 200 words passage at 80 w.p.m daily since that’s the minimum requirement required for a Grade ‘D’ stenographer. Analyze the words you mistyped and practice typing them again.
- Learn spellings of general and legal words.
