The CSE 2026 Mains written result has not been declared as of 27 October 2026; the papers were held on 21–23 and 29–30 August 2026. The latest result of this cycle is the Prelims result of 15 June 2026, which shortlisted 13,343 candidates for Mains against 1,016 vacancies. In the previous cycle, the CSE 2025 Mains result came on 11 November 2025.
What does each UPSC CSE result tell you?
Prelims result
A PDF of roll numbers of candidates qualified for Mains, followed by a name-wise list (15 June and 18 June 2026 this cycle). Prelims is a screening test, and its marks do not count in the final merit. Qualifiers then had to submit the Mains form, pay the Rs. 200 fee if not exempt and fill in cadre preference between 19 June and 29 June 2026.
Mains written result
A roll-number list of candidates called for the Personality Test. The CSE 2026 rules call about twice as many candidates as there are vacancies. Paper A (Indian Language) and Paper B (English) are only qualifying: the Essay, GS and optional papers of a candidate are counted only if they score 25% in each. Papers I to VII alone count for ranking.
Final result
A merit list based on the Mains written part (1750 marks) plus the interview (275 marks, no minimum qualifying marks). Services are allotted by rank and the preferences given. For CSE 2025, the final result recommended 958 candidates against 1,087 vacancies and kept a consolidated reserve list of 258.
How does UPSC break ties?
- Higher total in the compulsory papers (Essay, GS-I to GS-IV) plus the Personality Test.
- If still equal, higher total in those compulsory written papers alone.
- If still equal, the older candidate ranks higher.
- Any remaining tie is resolved at the Commission's discretion.
When are marks and scorecards available?
Prelims marks, cut-offs and answer keys for CSE 2026 will be published only after the final result. The marks sheets of all Mains candidates are uploaded within 15 days of the final result and stay online for 30 days. In the CSE 2025 cycle, the final result came out on 6 March 2026 and the marks of recommended candidates on 10 March 2026.
What happens after the Mains result?
- Within a 15-day window, interview candidates must update their details and upload proof of their degree, or their candidature is cancelled. For CSE 2025 the window was 13 to 27 November 2025.
- e-Summon Letters for the interview are issued online only. The interview is held at UPSC, Dholpur House, New Delhi, where original certificates are checked.
- The Attestation Form is filled online on DoPT's cseplus.nic.in from the start to the end of the interviews. Service allocation and cadre details are then handled by DoPT.
- Candidates who are interviewed but not recommended can have their details shared through UPSC PRATIBHA Setu, which shows employers their percentile, not their marks.
