UPSC IFS Result 2026: IFoS Prelims Out, Mains Result Next

The latest IFoS 2026 result is the Prelims result of 15 June 2026, which shortlisted 1046 candidates for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination 2026 against 80 vacancies. The Mains written papers are scheduled from 22 to 29 November 2026, so the Mains result is still ahead. In the previous cycle, the IFoS 2025 Mains result came on 24 February 2026 and the final result on 8 May 2026.

What does each IFoS result tell you?

Prelims (screening) result

A PDF of roll numbers qualified for the IFoS Mains, with a name-wise list posted the same day. The Prelims is the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination: after the common screening test, UPSC prepares separate lists for the Civil Services Mains and the IFoS Mains. Its marks do not count towards the final merit, and candidature stays provisional. In the 2026 list, one result (Roll Number 6300119) was withheld pending a court case.

Mains written result

A roll-number list of candidates called for the Personality Test. The IFoS 2026 rules call about twice as many candidates as there are vacancies, from those who reach the minimum qualifying marks the Commission fixes. Qualifiers get a 15-day window to upload proof of their degree, or their candidature is cancelled.

Final result

An order-of-merit list built on the Mains written part (1400 marks) plus the interview (300 marks, with no minimum qualifying marks), out of 1700. For IFoS 2025, the final result recommended 148 candidates against 150 vacancies; 02 PwBD-1 vacancies were carried forward, and the candidature of 71 recommended candidates was kept provisional. The marks list shows the top-ranked candidate on 1046 of 1700 (824 written, 222 interview).

How does UPSC break ties in IFoS?

1. Higher marks in the compulsory papers (General English and General Knowledge) and the Personality Test put together.
2. If still equal, higher marks in those two compulsory papers alone.
3. If still equal, the older candidate ranks higher.
4. Any remaining tie is resolved at the Commission's discretion.

When are marks and scorecards available?

• Prelims: no marks sheets are supplied. The 15 June 2026 notice says marks, cut-off marks and answer keys of the screening test go up only after the final results of IFoS 2026 and CSE 2026.
• Mains and interview: in the IFoS 2025 cycle, marks sheets of all candidates were to be uploaded within 15 days of the final result and kept online for 30 days. The marks of recommended candidates were uploaded on 14 May 2026.

What happens after the Mains result?

1. Detailed application update (15 days): degree proof, address, service details and cadre preferences. For IFoS 2025 the window ran from 27 February to 13 March 2026 (6:00 P.M.).
2. Interview: in the IFoS 2025 cycle, e-Summon Letters were downloaded online, and candidates brought original certificates of age, education, community, EWS and PwBD status to the interviews at UPSC, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi, held from 6 to 15 April 2026.
3. Final result and cadre: cadre allotment follows the policy in force at the time of allotment, with due consideration to preferences; under the 2026 rules a cadre preference once submitted cannot be changed except in the 15-day window. Candidates must also meet the physical standards in Appendix-III of the IFoS 2026 rules.
