Assam TET

Assam TET — the Assam Teacher Eligibility Test — is conducted by the State Level Empowered Committee (TET), Department of School Education, Government of Assam under Section 23 of the Right to Education Act, 2009, following NCTE guidelines. It is a qualifying test for teaching posts in the state's elementary schools: Paper I is for those who intend to teach at the Lower Primary level (classes I to V) and Paper II for the Upper Primary level (classes VI to VIII).

Special Assam TET 2026

The live cycle is the Special Assam TET 2026, advertised on 6 January 2026. It is a targeted drive to address the shortage of Language-1 teachers in Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar medium elementary schools, so applications are invited specifically for these mediums. Only permanent residents of Assam who meet the NCTE academic and professional norms may apply.

• Levels: Paper I (Lower Primary, classes I–V) and Paper II (Upper Primary, classes VI–VIII).
• Mediums: Language-1 is Bodo, Garo, Manipuri or Hmar (any one).
• Mode: 150 MCQs per paper, 150 marks, 1 mark each, no negative marking, 2 hours 30 minutes.
• Question-paper medium: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo or English.
• Fee: ₹550 General, ₹450 SC/ST/OBC/MOBC, ₹300 PWD(PH), per paper.
• Validity: the qualifying certificate is valid for life.

Dates

The application portal opened on 7 January 2026. The Government has stated that separate notifications will announce the opening and closing dates for online applications, the issue of e-admit cards, and the date of examination. Those dates are published on sebaonline.org, ssa.assam.gov.in and scert.assam.gov.in, and are updated here as they are notified.

Assam TET qualifies you to apply — it does not appoint you

Qualifying the Special Assam TET 2026 does not confer any right to appointment. It is one of the eligibility conditions for teacher recruitment in government and provincialised elementary schools of Assam; the vacancy itself is filled through a separate recruitment process as and when it arises.
