Himachal Pradesh Judicial Services Syllabus 2020: HPPSC conducts a two-stage competitive exam for recruitment into Civil Judge posts. The Commission releases the Himachal Pradesh Judicial Services Syllabus 2020 through the official website hppsc.hp.gov.in. The preliminary exam is conducted for an objective paper whereas the main examination is conducted as a descriptive test. There are 3 papers in the preliminary exam and 5 papers in the main examination. The duration of examination for the Prelims is 1 hour for each paper and while 3 hours per paper is allowed for the main exam. Preliminary examination syllabus
The Prelims consist of three papers of 100 marks each. The subjects of the Prelims exam can be checked below.

Main (narrative) examination syllabus
There are 05 papers in the main exam where the three papers of Civil Law I & II and the third paper of Criminal law are common are of 200 marks each. On the other hand, there is a paper on English Composition carrying 150 marks and a Hindi language paper carrying 100 marks. Syllabus for Paper-I
Civil law-I: Code of civil procedure, Indian stamp act, Indian evidence act, Himachal Pradesh courts act, 1976, and specific relief act.
Syllabus for Paper-II
Civil law-II: Indian contract law, Indian limitation act, Hindi law, transfer of property act, and H.P. urban rent control act.
Syllabus for Paper-III
Criminal law: Indian Penal Code, Chapter-XVII (section 138 to 143) of the Negotiable Instruments Act, Criminal Procedure Code, H.P. Excise Act-2011 as applicable to the state of Himachal Pradesh, Wildlife Protection Act and Indian Forest Act.
English Composition
Candidates have to choose on essay out of three options which are based on general subjects, translations of Hindi passage into English. The standard of the examination shall be of graduation examination of Himachal Pradesh University.
Language (Hindi)
Hindi (in Devanagari script) which includes the translation of English passage into Hindi, essay in Hindi on any topic out of three, composition (corrections and idioms, etc). The standard of language paper shall be of matriculation level.
