KAS Syllabus 2022 Kerala
KAS examination is a state level examination that takes place in three phases, 1) Preliminary, 2) Mains and 3) Interview. Candidates can secure the position for interview only if they clear the Mains and Preliminary phase.
KAS is a state-level exam thus, its syllabus consists of the state history as a priority. Also, it is important for a candidate to have basic information on regional languages like Malayalam/Kannada/Tamil as per the candidate’s choice.
KAS Syllabus for Prelims
The preliminary examination is an MCQ examination. It needs candidates to have accurate information about all the syllabus mentioned topics. Preliminary examination takes place in two papers and they both consist of different syllabus topics as given below
Paper 1 – General studies-I
- History of India and Kerala, (Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Kerala history from 18th century)
- World history ( from 18th century)
- Cultural Heritage of Kerala
- The Indian constitution, Public Administration, Political system, Governance, Social Justice and International Relationships
- Reasons, Simple Arithmetic and Mental ability
- Basic Geography, Geo. of India and Kerala
Paper 2 – General Studies-II

- Science and technology, ICT, cyber security and crime, Environmental science
- Current Events, world politics and Indian events
- Language proficiency – English (every basic thing to be included)

KAS Syllabus for Mains
Mains examination is a descriptive examination. It is an essay writing exam in which candidates need to attempt questions in concise and accurate form. Also, there is not any negative marking in the mains examination as a preliminary examination.
Topics for Mains examination are as same as preliminary but with elaborate detail and descriptive form.

Interview
Candidates who qualified for the mains and Preliminary exams secure the seat to sit in an interview. The interview takes place for the estimation of the candidate’s mental ability to think properly according to the situation.

Departmental Examination KAS 2022 Kerala
In order to complete the probation successfully, officers who are appointed on the post of KAS Officer (Junior Time Scale) Trainee, has to clear the Malayalam proficiency test, if they have not studied the Malayalam language at the metric level. Candidates have to give other departmental tests as well along with the Malayalam proficiency test.
