Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) was a statutory body formed on 01st February 1959 under the Electricity Supply Act.1948. After the reorganization of the PSU under a Punjab Reorganization Act 1966, the present form came into existence with effect from 01st May 1967. Govt. of Punjab bifurcated the company into 2 companies (i) Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. (POWERCOM) (ii) Punjab State Transmission Corporation Ltd. (TRANSCO). Achievements
All the power Stations have been in operation at their best ever since their installation. The company generated Net Power during 2008-09 which came to around 37,222 Million units (this is more than what it generated in 2006-07). The 1980 MW (3×660) Talwandi Sabo Power Project was awarded to M/s Sterlite Energy Ltd. Mumbai on 04th July 2008 and the PPA was signed on 01st September 2008.
The company signed a Power purchase agreement with M/S GVK for installing 2×270 MW thermal power station located at Goindwal Sahib signed on 26th May 2009. The project’s foundation stone has already been laid the company has started the construction. The 02nd stage of Lehra Mohabbat Thermal Power Station for 2×250 MW has been commissioned recently. Its Unit-III was completed CoD on 16 October 2008 and Unit-IV on 02nd February 2008 on coal. It is believed that over 4.76 lakh new connections including 61849 number of tubewell connections were set ud during 2007-09.
A 24 Hrs. Urban pattern supply was made available to around 12,428 villages. To help Scheduled Caste & Below Poverty Line consumers, the company has been providing free monthly consumption of upto 200 units. Very strict measures have been taken to reduce power theft. 5 numbers Anti Power Theft Police Stations have been set up. To upgrade to new technology, new electronic meters, remote control transformers, remote meter reading and HVDS system for AP/ Industries have been introduced. The measures have helped in reducing losses by 04% from 23.92% (2006-07) to 19.91% (2008-09) resulting in increase of revenue. During the years 2007-09, a total of 62 New Grid substations were erected and around 132 Grid substations were augmented.
