MAHA TET 2026 - Exam Postponed, Eligibility, Syllabus, Pattern

MAHA TET 2026 has been postponed. The Maharashtra State Examination Council had scheduled the Teacher Eligibility Test for 28 June 2026 at 1,028 centres across the state, but on 27 June 2026 the Council postponed it: acting on confidential information, Bhiwandi police found that some questions of the June 2026 TET paper had leaked and registered a case, and the Council held the exam back to protect its integrity. A revised examination date will be announced on the Council's website.

MAHA TET — the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test — is conducted by the Maharashtra State Examination Council (MSCE), Pune under the Right to Education Act, 2009. It is a qualifying test for teaching posts in the state's schools, held in two papers:

• Paper I — for those who intend to teach classes I to V.
• Paper II — for those who intend to teach classes VI to VIII.

A candidate who intends to teach at both levels sits both papers.

Fee

Exam pattern and qualifying marks

Each paper has 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks, over 2 hours 30 minutes, with no negative marking. A candidate qualifies on scoring 60% (General — 90 of 150), or 55% (82 of 150) for reserved and backward categories and persons with disability. In June 2021 the Union Government extended the validity of a TET qualifying certificate from 7 years to lifetime, with retrospective effect from 2011, and asked states to revalidate or issue fresh certificates to candidates whose 7 years had lapsed.

MAHA TET qualifies you to apply — it does not appoint you

Qualifying MAHA TET does not confer any right to appointment. It is one of the eligibility conditions for teacher recruitment in Maharashtra; the vacancy is filled through a separate process.

MAHA TET Eligibility

MAHA TET eligibility follows the NCTE framework. The qualification you need depends on the paper you sit. Only teacher-training courses recognised by the NCTE — or, for special education, by the Rehabilitation Council of India — are accepted.

Paper I — to teach classes I to V

• Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.); or
• Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.); or
• Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education); or
• Graduation with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

Paper II — to teach classes VI to VIII

• Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education; or
• Graduation with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed.; or
• Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 4-year B.El.Ed. or B.A./B.Sc.Ed.; or
• Graduation with at least 45% marks and a B.Ed., as per the applicable NCTE regulations.

The minimum-marks relaxation for reserved categories is as notified by the Council. Confirm your own combination of degree and training qualification against the MAHA TET information bulletin before applying.

MAHA TET Application Form

The MAHA TET 2026 application was submitted online at mahatet.in, from 27 March 2026, with the last date extended to 24 April 2026 (11:59 p.m.). There is no offline form.

Fee

The fee is paid online. A candidate sitting both papers pays the "both papers" fee for the category.

How to apply

1. Register on mahatet.in and choose Paper I, Paper II or both, according to the level you intend to teach.
2. Fill the form and upload the photograph and signature in the prescribed format.
3. Pay the fee online and save the confirmation.
