Details About UPSC Civil Services Question Paper 2018

Both the Papers in IAS Prelims are of 200 marks. The marks of General Studies-I will be used to select the candidates for IAS Main examination. However, the General Studies-II Paper will be of qualifying nature.

  • The questions in the Paper I will be of multiple choice type and will be based on current events, history, general knowledge, general sciences.
  • Paper II of the exam will also be of multiple choice type. The questions will be asked on  Logical reasoning, and analytical ability, Decision making, problem-solving, and General mental ability.
  • In the exam, the negative marking of 0.33% will be done for each incorrect answer.

In order to qualify the examination, the candidates will have to secure more than the minimum cutoff marks. The minimum cutoff score for Paper 1 is 33%. This means that the candidates need to score 66 marks out of 200.

About UPSC IAS Exam

Union Public Service Commission conducts Civil Services examination every year. The purpose of the examination is to recruit worthy candidates for A Grade post as IAS. IFS, IPS, etc.

UPSC conducts IAS examination in three phases. The first stage is the preliminary examination. Candidates who qualify it are called for the Main examination. The qualifying candidates of the Main exam are called for the interview round. This year, the number of vacancies for the IAS is 782.
