UPSC declared the IES/ISS 2026 written result on 4 August 2026, and the Personality Tests begin on 2 November 2026; the final result will follow the interviews. The interview schedules list 40 roll numbers for the Indian Economic Service and 94 for the Indian Statistical Service, against 16 and 28 tentative vacancies in the 2026 notice.

Stage 1: the IES/ISS 2026 written result

UPSC published two press notes on 4 August 2026, one for IES and one for ISS, each listing the roll numbers that qualified for the Interview/Personality Test, with name-wise lists the same day. No marks are shown. Every candidature is provisional, subject to the candidate being found eligible in all respects, and original certificates must be produced at the Personality Test.

Qualified candidates had a mandatory window from 11.08.2026 to 25.08.2026 till 6:00 P.M. on https://upsconline.nic.in to update their educational qualification status with proof and finally submit the form. A candidate who missed it is not allowed into the further stages, and a late form leads to cancellation of candidature.

Stage 2: the Personality Test

UPSC's notice of 15 October 2026 fixed interviews from Monday, 2 November 2026; the schedules run to 5 November 2026, with forenoon sessions at 0900 hrs and afternoon sessions at 1300 hrs. The viva voce carries up to 200 marks. The Board looks at intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, balance of judgment, alertness of mind, social cohesion, integrity and leadership.

How the final IES/ISS merit list is made

  • Final marks are the written total (out of 1000) plus the interview (out of 200). A candidate competes for only one service, IES or ISS.
  • Marks are rounded off to two decimal digits at all stages.
  • IES ties: first the subject papers (General Economics Paper-I, II, III and Indian Economics) plus interview marks, then those subject papers alone, then the candidate senior in age.
  • ISS ties: first Statistics Paper-I, II, III and IV plus interview marks, then those four papers alone, then the candidate senior in age.
  • Any tie left after that is resolved at the discretion of the Commission.

The 2026 notice puts the tentative vacancies at 16 in IES (one reserved for PwBD) and 28 in ISS (two reserved for PwBD), and says these are liable to alteration.

When are IES/ISS marks published?

The written result note says each candidate's mark-sheet goes up after the final result and stays online for 30 days, opened with Roll Number and date of birth. A printed copy can be requested within 30 days of the marks being displayed, with a self-addressed stamped envelope. In 2025 UPSC posted the marks of recommended candidates on 15 October 2025, after the 30 September 2025 final result.

Interviewed candidates who are not recommended can appear on the PRATIBHA Setu portal if they consented in the application. Registered employers then see a short biodata and percentile, not absolute marks, after the final result. For result queries, the UPSC Call Centre answers on 011-40303444/24041001 from 09:00 AM to 08:00 PM.
