The preliminary exam for RBI Assistant was conducted online and had 100 questions which were to be answered in 60 minutes. The paper had three sections- Reasoning Ability (35 Ques), Numerical Ability (35 Ques), and English Language (30 Ques).

- There were no major pattern changes in the paper of RBI Assistant Prelims 2017.
- The overall level of the exam was Easy and most of the questions were easily achievable.
- Miscellaneous Arithmetic Questions of the Quantitative Aptitude section were slightly tricky. For the sake of convenience, we shall analyse each section independently.

- The level of English Language was Easy-Moderate.
- The topic of reading comprehension was based on a story. There were 30 Questions asked in this section. Questions were based on Reading Comprehension, Spotting Errors and fill ups were asked.
- RBI Assistant Prelims Analysis – Reasoning Ability –
- Similarly, the reasoning ability was simple as well and simple logic could help you through.
- 35 Questions were asked in this section.
- The overall level of this section was Moderate.
- Topics such as Puzzles and seating arrangements, syllogism, coding-decoding and alpha numeric and numeric series were covered.
- RBI Assistant Prelims Analysis – Numerical Ability –
- The number of questions from arithmetic (word problems) was significantly high as 15 out of 35 questions were from the arithmetic portion.
- The overall level of this section was Moderate to Difficult. Problems on Number Series, Simplification/ Approximation Data Interpretation were asked.
