Selection Procedure
The candidates will have to clear the following tests in the respective manner only to clear the exam and be considered for selection.
- Preliminary Examination.
- Physical Measurement test (PMT).
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
- Final Combined Competitive Examination.
- Personality Test .
From among the candidates who have filled the application form, the eligible candidates are called for the preliminary examination. The preliminary examination is a objective type questions based examination. The qualified candidates now have to appear for the Physical Measurement Test (PMT). Only those candidates who passes the required minimum criteria are eligible to appear for the next round which is Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Only qualified candidates of both PMT & PET are eligible to appear in the Final Combined Competitive Examination.
The Final Combined Competitive Examination consists of three papers. The written examination for all the above three papers of the Final Combined Competitive Examination are held on the same day at selected centres to be decided by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board. A limited number of the candidates selected merit-wise on the results of Final Combined Competitive Examination will be called on to appear at the Personality Test. The minimum pass mark for the personality test will be 08 (eight). The candidates who fail to secure minimum pass mark in the personality test will be disqualified irrespective of the marks obtained by them in the Final Combined Competitive Examination.
The final merit list of provisionally selected candidates is prepared on the basis of the total marks obtained in the three papers of Final Combined Competitive Examination and the marks obtained in the Personality Test. The candidates who have failed to secure minimum pass mark in the personality test will not be considered for selection.
Document Verification
At the time of Personal Interview document verification is also done. The document verification will be mandatory to qualify and all the original documents as claimed in the application form will be checked. The final result will be released for only those candidates whose documents are verified and are found to be true and valid.
Medical Examination
All provisionally selected candidates are required to appear for Medical Examination at the State Government designated hospitals. He should qualify the prescribed medical test. The candidates must not have any of the following.
- Knock Knee
- Flat Foot
- Varicose Vein
- Squint Eyes.
With respect to vision the minimum vision should be 6/6 with or without glasses. They should possess high colour vision and should not be colour blind. The medical test also includes the chest x-ray and other tests as prescribed by the department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal from time to time.

Pay Scale
The candidates will be selected provisionally for appointment to the posts of Sub-Inspector (Unarmed Branch) and Sub-Inspector (Armed Branch) in West Bengal Police, after successful completion of verification and Medical Examination, will be appointed on temporary basis. After successful completion of Basic Training they will be placed in probation for two years. The selected candidates will be appointed in West Bengal Police in the Pay Scale of Rs 7100 – 37600 (that is Pay Band – 3) + Grade Pay Rs 3900 plus other admissible allowances.
