Following in the footsteps of many government recruitment bodies, the Indian Army has also decided to postpone upcoming selection tests. The army released the official notice of postponement of Appeal Medical Board (AMB) on the website.
Indian Army has confirmed the postponement of all AMB tests till April 15, 2020. The postponement notice is displayed at the recruitment website of the Indian Army i.e. joinindianarmy.nic.in.
As we all know, all recruitments of the defense forces in India include a critical assessment of the medical fitness of candidates. The army does not allow any relaxation at this stage. However, it can include multiple sub-stages to make the process as fair as possible.
The Appeal Medical Board (AMB) is the resort for those candidates who are declared unfit in the preliminary medical tests. However, this year, the army has declared postponement of the AMB till April 15, 2020. The news comes amidst the lockdown imposed in the country to contain the Covid-19 outbreak. It can be expected that the new dates for AMB will be notified by the Indian Army as soon as the situations are restored to normal.
Indian Army AMB
Indian Army recruitments include extensive physical endurance and standard tests. The Army releases strict guidelines for recruitment in the form of minimum physical standards for every recruitment. Besides, candidates are also subjected to rigorous physical endurance tests as per the requirement of the post.
Besides the physical standard test and physical endurance tests, all army recruitments include a medical examination. It is mandatory for all army recruitments whether the posts are combatised or not. The army does not compromise on the medical fitness of their staff unlike the physical standards and endurance tests.
Although qualifying in the medical fitness tests is mandatory, there are provisions to appeal against disqualifications. In this context, candidates declared UNFIT in the medical stage can appeal against the decision at the Appeal Medical Board (AMB). However, as of now, the army has postponed all AMBs of selected candidates due to the Covid-19 outbreak in India.

What can AMB candidates do now?
With the news of AMB cancellation putting a break on the defense enrolment dreams of many, it is high time that candidates take care of their health and fitness. The government has imposed the ongoing lockdown orders to contain the spread of the killer Covid-19 virus among the populace. However, casualties are being reported every day.
Expectations are, the army will reschedule the AMB at the end of the lockdown. However, there is no clear indication of any tentative schedule. In the meantime, candidates must ensure that they do not fall sick or contract a disease. This can jeopardize chances of qualifying in the medical tests for selected candidates since the medical standards of the army are likely to remain the same.
Here are some of fundamental guidelines to follow in order to stay safe during the Covid-19 related lockdown in India.
- Do not go outdoors and refrain from inviting people to your house in these times.

- Maintain personal hygiene even at home. Wash your hands and use a sanitizer as many times as required.
- Include immunity-boosting food in your everyday diet.
- Engage in some kind of physical activity on a daily basis.
